Illinois License Requirements for Retired Police Officers

STATE OF FLORIDA PERMIT TO CARRY CLASS

In part, Illinois State Gun Regulations indicate that retired police and law enforcement officers are qualified to carry a concealed firearm as long as they meet the following criteria:

• The police or law enforcement officer is retired in good standing
• Or retired due to a service-connected disability
• And has met applicable probationary requirements

Equipment Needed:

Automatics: Belt, holster, magazine pouch with two magazines

Revolvers: Holster, belt, speed loader pouch and one speed loader

Retired Illinois police officers seeking a license for a concealed carry must meet (at their own expense) the same standards for qualification as an active duty officer. They must also be able to provide documentation (from the agency where they were previously employed), which certifies they have met the active duty law enforcement standards for qualification within the previous twelve months.

The intended firearm for concealment must be of the same type as the weapon the retiree was qualified to carry during active service.

Once a license to carry a concealed firearm has been granted the retired police officer must also carry photo id that has been issued by the Illinois agency for which they were previously employed.

If you are a retired police officer from a local, State or Federal governmental agency in Illinois and you meet the license requirements for weapon concealment, you may be able to carry a concealed firearm under the provisions set out in Illinois State law.
