“Safe Action” Glock Pistols

In 1980, Austrian businessman and polymer manufacturer Gaston Glock learned that the Austrian Ministry of Defense was looking for a new, self-loading, “safe action”, 9x19mm short firearm that could meet the many strict requirements set out in their Request for Proposal (RFP).

In May of 1982, after nearly two years of research, consulting with firearms experts and constructing many prototypes, Gaston Glock delivered on his promise.

He had created what is now considered to be one of world’s top small arms products, the Glock “Safe Action” pistol.

This was a new, completely unique handgun, designed with a tougher-than-steel polymer body for minimum weight and a trigger system that included three unique safety features. All 3 safety features can only be disengaged by the trigger pull and they fully re-engage when the trigger is released.

Glock pistols are simple and easy to disassemble and reassemble, yet they are designed to be secure firearms that won’t accidentally discharge if dropped or shocked in any way.
